Chinese food is maybe on my growing list of top Asian Cuisines as Modern Shanghai let us tried there newly menu packages and tea sets at their very spacious branch at the Mall of Asia. Yes! A few week ago I indulged myself with these tasty dishes, as they launched their ultimate Shanghainese dishes that are ready made for your family and friends to share and enjoy. – Modern Shanghai gathered some of its sought after dishes and put them together under “Shanghai Favorites” and available every weekdays until 5:00 PM and “Tea Time Specials”, which can be enjoyed from 3:00 – 6:00 PM of the said days as well.
I don’t know about you, but although I am not a fully-blooded Chinese I still eat like one! Nonetheless these dishes will make you crazy and crave for more, well it happened to me so I want to share my experience. Let me leave you these photos to make your tummy growl and make you instantly head on over to Modern Shanghai. (evil laugh chinese version)
I’m in love with good sets when it comes to meals, so when they introduced to us the food in set menus, I clearly knew what to get. – Set 1 includes the signature Shanghai Fried Noodles and Deep-fried Squid with Spicy Salt and Pepper. If you would rather have a chicken and vegetable combination, then Set 2 is for you – Sweet and Sour Chicken, spiced up with the Sautéed String Beans with Minced Pork & Chili. Sets 1 and 2 are priced at only P698 per set and are good for 2 to 3 persons. These include the restaurant’s signature Xiao long Bao and Egg Rice.
If you’re in a bigger group and you’re in need of a heavier appetite and might require more Shanghainese goodness. Thus, Modern Shanghai offers a medley of three mains paired with their signature soup dumplings for P 998 per set that can be shared by 3 to 4 persons. Set 1 under this category is comprised of Sautéed Egg White with Seafood and Sautéed String Beans with Minced Pork & Chili. But if you are craving seafood and chicken, Set 2—a combination of Deep-fried Squid with Spicy Salt and Pepper and Sweet & Sour Chicken – is spot on. Both sets are served with Shanghai Fried Noodles, Yang Chow Fried Rice and the Signature Xiao Long Bao.
Their signature Xiao Long Bao is an award-winning dish cited by spot.ph as “The Best Xiao Long Bao.” Both dishes are delicately crafted from fresh ingredients and made from scratch. As I try to eat one, the people from Modern Shanghai taught me how to eat these Xiao long Bao(s), you have to eat these as a whole (ofcourse one-by-one haha!), because there’s a soup inside and it’s best eaten if they’re hot and freshly served.
Clearly, I’m crazy about this Steamed Bun with Preserved Egg Yolk Paste inside! Sadly wasn’t able to take a photo of it’s gooey goodness! But when you dine in or do little take out at Modern Shanghai, this little one is a must-try! They serve it in 3 per serving!
Tea Time Sets, meanwhile, are composed of delectable dimsum and noodles that can either pass for a late lunch, snack or an early dinner. With Tea Set 1, you get Steamed Buns with Preserved Egg Yolk Paste and Signature Shanghai Fried Noodles. Tea Set 2, on the other hand, is composed of Pork dumplings in Hot Chili Sauce, Signature Shanghai Fried Noodles. These Tea Sets come served with unlimited hot tea. Two persons can already share these at P298 per set. These are served weekdays from 3:00-6:00pm.
